Urban myths about Reiki are some statements about contraindications for Reiki or warnings when Reiki should not be done. Of course, I call them myths because they are completely unfounded. However, since they are very widespread among Reiki practitioners, and unfortunately also among many Reiki masters, I am writing about them here and explaining why they “do not hold water”.

These are some of those myths:

Reiki should not be done on a broken bone before it is set to prevent it from healing incorrectly;
Reiki should not be done to a person under anesthesia lest they wake up on the operating table;
Reiki should not be done to people with pacemakers as it could change the rhythm;
Reiki should not be performed on diabetics, lest their blood sugar levels become so disturbed that the person falls into a diabetic coma;
One should not cross one's legs or arms as this blocks the flow of energy;
No jewelry or watches should be worn as this blocks the flow of energy;
Do not drink coffee, strong tea or alcohol before a Reiki session;
You should only do Reiki to those who can pay for it or otherwise give something in return, otherwise you will incur their karmic debt (some go so far as to charge their parents, children, or siblings);
With the first degree you are not allowed to do Reiki to others because you do not yet know how to protect yourself;
You are allowed to work with others for a maximum of ten minutes with the first level, otherwise you will bring their problems upon yourself;
You should not place your palms on the crown chakra as this closes off the flow of energy;
How fall asleep during a reiki treatment, after waking up, you must close yourself because otherwise your aura remains open to energy intrusions;
If you are a Reiki master, this must be your only source of income;
You must be loyal to your Reiki teacher and complete all the levels with him, and if you wish to go to another master, you need to ask your teacher for absolution;
You must know your lineage of masters from Usui to your teacher;

Reiki miraculously heals everything it touches.

These are unfounded myths. Reiki is by definition a “spirit-guided universal life energy” and as such always does what is for the highest good of the person receiving the Reiki treatment. Therefore, Reiki cannot do any harm! The bone will not heal incorrectly, the patient will not wake up in the middle of the operation, the blood sugar level will not be disturbed and the person will fall into a coma, the pacemaker will not change the rhythm and thus endanger the person, crossed legs or jewelry will not stop the flow of energy that created the entire universe, coffee or alcohol will not interfere with the flow of healing energy, you will not incur any karmic debt if you do Reiki for free (according to the logic of this myth - maybe by doing so you are actually repaying the debt?), with the first degree you can freely do Reiki to others as much as you want, without fear of picking up anything, you learned protection methods in the first degree, and there are also protection methods that do not depend on Reiki, the palm of your hand on the crown chakra cannot block the flow of almighty cosmic energy, during a Reiki treatment, the aura does not open or close, but your energy channel for channeling cosmic energy, so if you fall asleep, no danger threatens you, Reiki does not have to be your only source of income because the nature of the universe is freedom and creativity, you are not attached to your Reiki teacher because any attachment is addictive and harmful, and this is contrary to the freedom of each individual, the line of masters from which you came is not important, but the energy that comes from the source and which is the same for everyone, and emphasizing the line is a matter of prestige and ego, Reiki symbols have never been secret, they are found in Buddhist scriptures available to everyone, they are displayed in martial arts schools and today they are everywhere on the internet, and respecting the word of the teacher even when he said the wrong or untrue thing is a matter of ego, not common sense.

Regarding miraculous healing, let us remember that Reiki never works against the will of the person and against the purpose of an illness or life situation at the soul level, so healing will not occur if there is strong internal resistance or some higher purpose for the illness or life situation. There is a natural course of things that Reiki will not change, for example, you can do Reiki as much as you want on a fruit tree in the spring to bring forth fruit, but it will not happen before its natural time.
